The problem
Drivers need practice with sudden hazards, poor road surfaces and emergency stops, and none of these can be staged safely on a real road. Seat time in real vehicles is limited and expensive.
What we built
- A setup screen where the instructor picks the vehicle, weather, road surface and driver distraction before each run.
- Driver assists that can be switched on or off: ABS, traction control, stability control and blind-spot detection.
- A course with stop signs and stop lines, a braking zone and cones, with prompts at each step.
What happened
The simulation is part of VR Motion's driver training product, which Tata Elxsi distributes in India.
