Project Overview
An underground mining operation needed to improve emergency preparedness for scenarios that are impossible to safely replicate in real life — tunnel collapses, gas leaks, equipment fires, and evacuation under low-visibility conditions. Previous tabletop exercises and classroom training provided procedural knowledge but failed to build the kind of decision-making confidence needed in real emergencies.
HapzXR built a suite of VR simulations that placed mine workers in realistic underground environments with dynamic hazard events. Trainees practiced emergency evacuation routes, self-rescue equipment use, gas detection procedures, and team communication under simulated pressure. Each scenario included multiple branching decision points and real-time coaching.
Supervisors used post-session analytics to identify individuals who needed additional practice on specific emergency procedures, creating a targeted remediation loop that replaced blanket refresher training.
